Coincidentally I walked by Sterling’s home in Mayfair London yesterday and thought of 722

How about 722 the special 300 SLR Roadster driven by Stirling Moss and co-driver Dennis Jenkinson in the 1955 Mille Miglia.
I doubt Mercedes’ would sell it as it is very special. Nice little movie about 722’s last blast which was around central London

Also article about its last outing where route passed the Royal Automobile Club where Sir Stirling was a member for many years ended up at his home in a nearby Mayfair mews. Pictured here at small square where Pall Pall meets Lower Regent Street on London’s West End :

722 is a very special motorcar due to that MM history. Stirling’s mews house has images of a Merc etched in glass — shows 722. Shepherd Market an area just off Picadilly has a colourful past and those who really know about the motor-racing scene in London might appreciate was the site of the infamous Steering Wheel Club.
For many years Stirling used to ride a moped the short distance from home to the main RAC clubhouse in St James London where he pottered about.
About a handful of years ago the RAC dedicated a restaurant in honour of Sir Stirling at its country clubhouse Woodcote Park out in Surrey England ( the corner at Silverstone is named after the place). There are artefacts relating to that epic Mille Miglia on display. I’ll be there next week for the famous Epsom Derby horse race so will take photos if I remember
Stirling kept his car in the club’s motorhome at woodcote Park:

ps I believe the attached photo is around 1970 of Attwood and Hermann ( with Rico Steinemann) “donating” the steering wheel of the Le Mans winning 917 which was a kind of rite of passage for drivers seeking to join “the Wheel” sited just a few hundred yards from Stirling’s home .Last edited by 911MRP; 05-28-2022, 04:21 PM.
