  • Best interior specialist for a 1972 911T?

    Howdy all,

Saw a link on Pelican and happy to have found the site.

My father is passing down to me his 1972 911T and I'm excited to own my first vintage 911. I've owned several 911's before but never an early one. The car has been taken care of over the years (he's owned it since the '80's) but the original interior is showing its age and I'd like to have the seats, doors and carpets redone. Can anyone recommend a great interior shop? I'm in Cali but open to shipping the parts if necessary. Thanks in advance. -Jan

Dagny, WELCOME! What an incredibly special car you have. I would have loved to have one of my father’s cars. He was into MBZ’s (6.3’s to be exact). You happen to be in the right spot (at least the right state) for your needs. One of the premier specialists in Porsche interiors is Tony at Autobahn Interiors in San Diego. Here’s a link to his website. Best of luck and keep up posted, with pics of course!

I've always used Tony, but Autos International is very good also.

Welcome, Jan! And I love the username. Atlas Shrugged was an eye-opening book for me as a teenager.

Your going to get a lot of similar responses for interior work. I also prefer Tony but I've had good work done by both of the aforementioned companies and can't imagine either would disappoint. One tip - call earlier rather than later. Seems every vendor I use has a waiting list right now.

JP said it, everyone is busy. Where in Cali are you located? I'm a fan and friend of Juan Ortiz, he's in the same complex as Autokennel in Costa Mesa. He's a bit off the radar, but his work is top-notch. I believe his results are every bit as good as the firms mentioned above.

So, what's the interior look like now? Pics? Perhaps some preservation pieces might be better to sort out the interior. The seats can be re-stuffed to provide better support and I might have a good original door panel to replace one of yours. Materials currently available are close but not perfect matches. Maybe you'll end up going there, but maybe there's an alternative that will preserve what you have and maintain the originality of your car. Course, if the carpet was previously replaced with domestic loop years ago, perhaps a refresh is in order.

            Pics or it didn't happen!

            And WELCOME!!

These are great suggestions and we're near Oceanside so neither it too far away. I'll give Tony a call. Thank you.

The car is still with my father on the east coast but we'll be moving it soon now that the weather is warming up. I think my husband has a photo on his phone I'll ask. I really do like the idea of fresh new leather though. I'm really not that excited about 50 years of seat occupancy by God knows who! -Jan

We're finally about to move the car and looking for a reliable transport company. I'm wondering if anyone here has any suggestions?

I’ve had good experiences with a solo operator named Chris Ridgeway; he’s a Marine vet and a great guy. Towed my early 911 from San Diego and then back. I have his contact info if you are interested. Oh, you can’t miss with Tony Garcia for your interior. He’s a good man. Nick
