  • Convert 4R/5R crankcase to 2.7 a good idea?

I've heard that it's been done, but I don't have any first-hand knowledge. I'd like to redo my early 73 S as a 2.7, but I need to hear from those who know before I do anything.

That is one of the most common upgrades for the early mag cases. There are very few machine shops that are experienced to do it, like Ollie’s or Competition Engineering. Other machine work also needs to be done with installing case savers or time certs for the head studs topping the list.

Always have the case half’s surface ground and bearing bores honed back to standard. These mag cases are 50 years old and they flex over time.
