Just stumbled over this thread... I'm somewhat bemused by the question/worry about date stamping... Over 27 years of being a Porsche dealer (1973 to 2000) and 13 years prior running a large VW service department, in a state with only a few authorized Porsche dealerships, thus we did a fair amount of Porsche work. I was never asked " what is the date stamp" the only infrequent question was, " can you replace the damaged wheel." Careful one of your cars may have a replacement wheel that my team installed! Suggest that anyone interested in restoring their car back to: " factory correct condition." Get a copy of Miles Collier's excellent 'tome,' "The Archaeological Automobile." Miles is an erudite automobile guy who started REVS in Naples to house his collection and do research on the " Understanding and Living with Historical Automobiles." If the current wheel works and is period looking, but a later date stamp, I just might have a story to tell! Cheers, Frank
