As removed...
Engine turned freely... air cleaner snorkel upside down... light ivory overspray from the exterior respray all over the SSI exhaust, and valve covers... the fan and housing sort of painted... newish Bosch starter... blue sealant on the carbs... missing parts... original "K" bolts... Nothing like other 911s and a Carrera GT for backdrop...

Final look before 1235 is off to the next phase:
I remained cautiously optimistic that we had gotten lucky and 1235 was a solid chassis, and basis for us to start our build...

Ready for the next phase:
The TwinSpark / Differs guys had a lot of success with using a controlled pyrolysis oven, where the chassis is heated to ~800F / ~420C to effectively bake off and remove filler, undercoating, seam sealer and paint (http://www.thermal-cleaning-system.c...-off-oven/)…
So, 1235 was mounted on a dolly for transport…

THAT’S HOT:
Out of the oven… and…
Still looking pretty solid… a weird repair on the passenger side rear quarter panel, some rust in the inner fender support and in the fenders, and rust in the outer sill… The plan was remove both outer sills and replace the heater hose inside anyway, so not too concerned about the exterior…We will see if the inners are rusty later…

BACK IN BLACK:
Back at Differs from KTL / E-Coat process…
Here is a link to PPG for more info: http://www.ppgecoat.com/Process.aspx & https://www.ppgcoatingsservices.com/...cess-specifics
1235 was looking pretty good…

DILEMMA:
1235 was looking really solid, and it was matching numbers… We were thinking this one should be restored, maybe with a bump in engine spec to S or Mod S, but basically restored back to original… And I should look for another less nice car to use as a donor… E.g. non matching numbers, etc…

ON CLOSER LOOK:
Once we really started to inspect 1235… While, in very solid condition, she was going to need a lot of work… There seemed to be corrosion, albeit of a minor nature, on most panels…
