My life with Porsche… And my latest (last build) – 2.8 RSR style on 9111121235
Thanks! We are very happy here, and it probably saved our sanity to move in just as C-19 lockdown was happening... I would have gone nuts trapped in the flat we had in London... I was born near the sea and just get huge energy from being near it...
We went to Differs to all have a good look at 1235 before paint…
First, was to ensure we had the gaps of the doors, fenders, lids, etc. correct… I am a self-confessed symmetrical freak… I’m not sure when this started or why, but it is there… Yes, I’m the guy that will unconsciously straighten the pictures hanging in your house… And I am crazy about trying to get the gaps right… As the poor guys at Differs endured… We ended up re-skinning the passenger side door, because it just wasn’t quite right…
Second, was to note anything that needed further work – we tagged those spots with yellow stickers… There were quite a few things, most noted by Joost and Leon before I even got there… And that is part of the process…
I have learned that perfection is wonderful to strive for, but impossible to achieve - at least for mere mortals... And we chose to leave the tow hook bent, as a reminder of 1235's past, and that there will always be something imperfect...

As part of remaining true to our “north star” – road car first… 1235 got undercoating… The undercoat weight penalty would be a major concession to ever being able to race 1235… But, I figured if at some point in the future, I really wanted to race, then I could go ahead, and if I was really competitive, and finding I need to find those extra few tenths to make it to the podium, then we could address it at that point… I wouldn’t be too concerned about that for now… I’m not exactly the leanest I’ve ever been, so plenty of places to find time before I worry about undercoat…
With Glaserblau the choice for 1235… My wife upon seeing her, immediately nicknamed her Schtroumpf, which I then found out meant Smurf in French… Joost and Leon laughed, and the name has stuck… I wasn’t very pleased at the time, but it has grown on me, and Schtroumpf is now how we all refer to 1235…
